So in case you didn't know...I was out of the country ALL summer (3 months to be exact) in Nicaragua. I have never missed a piece of metal as much as I did my camera all summer. But through some emails and a few connections, I landed myself a little engagement session with my good friend Nick Frey from High School and his fiancee Erin Wiley.

THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE! With some bad weather on our original set date and a quickly setting sun....we got some of the most surprisingly great pics! Nick and Erin are so cute together and head over heels for each other. I think they sometimes forgot I was in front of them taking pics...haha.

But this first post is some pics worthy for that good ole' newspaper announcement! Enjoy!

I had a portrait assignment this week and decided to embark on a local artist and friend Lauren Eash. Her voice is beautiful and so are her pictures. I liked photographing her but realized I need to work on coaching models. I never knew what to tell her! This shoot deemed awesome but it also showed me what I need to work on!

Sacred

Our latest photo assignment has been to capture an image that is sacred. Now this word has a lot of different meanings but while I sat pondering the word myself, I came to the conclusion that the ability to love others is sacred. The level of intimacy you can share with another person is so special and sacred that I had to follow this vision. And I played around with one of my practice shots....it's the one on the bottom. I hope you enjoy :) P.s. they look a little different on this site than they should...

The following set of pictures is my latest Adv. Photo Assignment. The topic was a "New aspect of the new semester." This semester I stepped into the world of the x-box 360. I also decided to branch out of my normal style with abnormal sizes, random crops, long titles, and slightly blurred faces instead of crisp and clean. It was a good learning experience and I can't wait to experiment with more ideas.

It's kind of like when you are little and want to stay up and read your favorite book under the covers with a flashlight.

And then you grow older and actually spend late nights reading with you favorite cup of tea in hand.

Then finally the question becomes: Who's controlling who now?

P.S.- keep a look out for my fisheye experiments...I CAN'T WAIT!

A Biography

I think it is fair to say that I haven’t had the most interesting life and if you feel like my pictures would be more entertaining than a long story about yours truly, you can look at those only. It’s up to you. ☺

But I will start from the beginning. I was born at 7:15 in the morning on November 13, 1987 in Lafayette, Indiana. It was Friday the 13th to be exact and probably explains some of my weird tendencies today. But I grew up like any other kid, playing in the sandbox with a puppy that I was terrified of, running from the camera until I was like six because I was terrified of it also, and dancing the night away in my room by myself to New Kids on the Block.

Then I turned eight, and the opportunity to dive into sports was at my fingertips, literally. I started the swim team and the volleyball team at that time and my life changed forever, literally. From then on I was a three sport athlete for ten years; swimming, volleyball, and track. Swimming became my strong suit, winning the High School Sectional title four years in a row, swimming at the State meet was a usual occasion, and I received Swimmer of the Year my senior year. Volleyball turned out positively as well, making the Varsity Squad as a sophomore middle hitter and received the most kills on the team each year. And then my senior year I received the highest honor of “Female Athlete of the Year” in three counties.

On top of all these sports I was highly involved in Sunshine Society, Athenian Corps, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, FCA, Choir, PRIDE Youth Programs, four musical productions, and one play. I was a busy bee you could say and I wouldn’t have changed any of it for the world. I learned so much about hard work and dedication in High School and that I can only make it through with God’s strength. High School was an experience of a lifetime and I don’t really want to go back. ☺

Then came the decision of where to get a college degree and I was very unsure until I came across Goshen College.

I developed a deep interest in the volleyball program and found myself signing a little piece of paper. I signed to play volleyball at Goshen College and was about to embark on a whole new adventure. My next step was finding a major.

So I did what any other undecided college student would do, I flipped through the course catalog and picked one from the list. I came across the Physical Education Department and found an interest in the tumbling and dancing classes. It was like a dream major, full of every kind of class I could have ever imagined. The classes were like every practice I had ever experienced in the last ten years. So I got on board in the Physical Education department that very next year and started slamming volleyballs down on a whole new kind of court. A year and a half passed, and I started teaching in the P.E. classroom. After the screaming children and broken teeth, I realized that P.E. wasn’t the place for me.

Then came the scariest decision of my college career, where to go next. I looked through the catalog one more time and thought back to High School, what I enjoyed, and what I wanted to learn. I came across the Communications Department and found a match. I didn’t exactly know which part of the Communications department and I still don’t know, but I am having the time of my life learning about an area that I truly enjoy. I’ve been involved with the local radio station, 91.1 The Globe, and I took my first Photo Communication class this semester of my junior year.

I’ve always enjoyed taking pictures, lots of pictures of my friends, family, and anything that moves. Granted, I was using a crappy point-and-shoot camera that barely works. And then as I sat in on the first day of Photo Communication class, it dawned on me, I loved photography more than just for fun. I want to know and learn everything about it, and I am excited to see where this passion takes me. For now, I am going to keep doing what I’m doing, love learning about this field, and see where it takes me. I’ve got all the time in the world and I can’t wait to experience it.

Taking pictures has always been enjoyable for me, but there was one process that I discovered that took my breath away. I love going out, taking a butt-load of pictures, uploading them to my computer, picking my favorites, and then I open a new window in Photoshop and go to work. There is a whole other creativity level to discover when you put a picture in Photoshop and I love to sit at the computer for hours to see what brand-spanking-new pictures I can come up with. It's my new love. :)

These following pictures are compilations that I made for my final Photography project for class. I took multiple pictures of this scene and arranged them to make one big picture. It was a lot of fun.

This was one of my favorite assignments thus far. I love capturing moments and I think that is the true essence behind photo journalism, in a round-a-bout way. I can see myself gravitating towards this kind of photography in the future.

Here is the final piece. It is also displayed here on the Goshen College Campus in the Leaf Raker.

Here are some of Jordan's friends playing in the leaves. They wanted me to be able to capture as many moments as possible :) They are funny and had way too much fun for 22 year olds.

Here is my final motion picture. We were supposed to capture blurred motion or still motion behind the camera and I decided to capture both for my final piece. Notice the difference in the before and after...there is quite a difference.

Let's just say that one of my best friends Jocelyn Miller was behind the umbrella and this turned out to be one of my most entertaining shoots for class (to say the least). She was willing to do anything and sometimes...I couldn't get her to stop.....and I took about 75 pictures of this girl....love it.

Here is my final color assignment as well. This assignment was probably my worst, because I had a really hard/rough weekend and my homework time was cut short. I'm not that proud about this picture, but I still took the time to do it so here it is!

Line and Space

The following picture is my very first photo comm assignment of this year. The focus was "line" and using line as the main aspect of the picture. We edited them in photoshop, black and white, emphasizing the content instead of the color. I took this picture outside my apartment in Kulp, a fire escape to be more exact. It is extinct though, hence the fact it looks old and unusable, because well, it is.

These pictures were some I took for my space assignment. They emphasize empty space and the arrangement of the objects within the space of the picture. They can also convey a sense of depth or a sense of flatness in the frame.

This is my final space photo for class, taken at one of Jordan's rock concerts. I snapped it real fast, fascinated by the natural layout of the objects in the picture and what the light did to each of them in return.

These aren't the first photos I've ever taken of course, but they are the first ones I took for merely the fun of taking pictures and experimenting with my own interests. I also edited them in photoshop, you can see that I love black and white or really bright color schemes with high intensities and contrasting colors. I took them with a 35 mm film camera and then I edited them digitally.

Stranger? Why do you live in such an evil residence? Why is your soul as black as the night? Why do I come up with such random titles for albums and blogs? Well I choose to title something with exactly that moment, whether it's what I'm feeling, watching, or experiencing. Makes no difference.

At this very moment, I am sitting at J-dubs house, playing on his knew MAC and watching him play Resident Evil on the Wii. Boring?

Well on my part yes...but every boy needs

his video game fix every once in a while, yeah? Especially when his girlfriend will be leaving f

or the summer in 2 days, yeah? haha. Really, I could care less. Because i've learned over the years (that makes me sound old) that fighting over the small stuff is not worth the small time I have with people. And to clear the air, I am not mad at Jordan's video game habits because well, I could sit for hours doing the same thing, I just don't have time. And frankly, he is real cute when he gets all pumped up and nervous or even scared in this case :)

Speaking of scared, last night. He thought it would be hilarious to take the form of a zombie and literally make me poop my pants, I almost took a dump in my pants. I am easily scared, and Jordan likes to take advantage of this. Especially when he has already made me watch the scariest movies to traumatize me for life. Any who, yes. Jordan is still slaying zombies on the television. I don't think he has blinked in the last half hour. Oh well, his fault if he doesn't use his tear glands properly.

So the main point of this post is not to lay down a synopsis of Jordan's gaming habits,

it's a chance for me to show some love. And I do indeed love every bit of the man sitting next to me, numb-chuck in hand.

It all started in the college scene, a funny yet particular scene that makes me chuckle every time I think about it. Whether he w

as stopping by my dorm room unannounced, chatting it up on AIM, or texting me during class. Jordan and I started hanging out regardless of our confusing lives in the present and in the summer ahead. A few broken bets later and packed suitcase for the Dominican Republic, he left for the summer. I was like a sick puppy, checking the internet almost every hour, waiting for that email and those words, "I miss you."

He returned, only after we had shopped in H & M too long and he was left waiting at the airport way after he got off the plane. We made it facebook official, I know, seems like Middle School. But it wasn't anywhere close to that. And now as I sit here, we have almost been together 10 months. long time. that seems so short. I don't regret one minute. When is it time to court? no, but seriously. when is it time?

I've never met someone who has genuinely cared so much for my whole being.

Who has completely excepted me for who I am and doesn't want me to change in any way.

Who still says those sweet things even though i've heard them a million times over already.

Who opens the door for me every time. (except for those 4 times. we both keep track)

He still melts my insides every time he plays the same songs on that same guitar. The same

rock show i've seen almost 30 times.

The same man that I want to spend the rest of my life with.

Thank you for the journey Jordan.

Sometimes you watch sappy movies, live through another's death, and just sit and think about how different life would be without someone. I've been alive 20 years now...and that holds a lot of room for people and their impact on me. I dedicate my smile...my laugh...and the way I live my life to all the people I love and have been loved by.

Love is a strong word...and some people claim that it is used too often and without meaning.
But as I sit hear writing, I've never regretted loving someone, I've never regretted uttering that four letter word to anyone and I don't think I ever will. We all know that anger and hurt can become unbearable in some relationships, but just because you might have stopped loving someone, doesn't mean they didn't count at the time.

Someone once told me, "I feel like loving others and just loving in general is one or maybe the most important thing in life." This isn't a direct quote but it's close. So here I am expressing my love. I truly want to love others, because I truly appreciate all the love I've been given.

And as you read ...I hope that you can grasp that feeling, hold on to it, and never let go of it. If you do let go....only let go of that love to others...wholeheartedly. You may be thinking, "what feeling".....it's the feeling of being loved.
